Couples Therapy
Discover What's Possible in Your Relationship
If you're considering couples therapy, it's likely that one or both of you are feeling that the current dynamic in your relationship is no longer working, and that something needs to change. Maybe it’s the loop of miscommunications, or the weight of external stressors, or maybe you sense you are wanting different things and drifting further apart. What used to feel easy and safe between you now feels heavy and tense. Instead of being each other’s champion, it feels like you’re adversaries. You are probably wondering, How did we get here? and Is this as good as it gets? Deciding to take a good honest look at your relationship takes courage, and may stir up anxiety, but it’s the first step toward change and growth.
Finding New Ways to Connect and Communicate
No matter what stage of the relationship - new couples adapting to each other’s differences, couples juggling kids and jobs, seasoned couples adjusting to an empty nest, and even couples dealing with the painful aftermath of betrayal- my approach goes beyond just improving communication. We’ll work together to unpack the roots of your reactivity, often reaching back to old wounds that are reawakened by your partner today. This understanding brings compassion to the pain, helping you see each other not as adversaries but as people deserving of empathy and patience.
In our sessions, whether you meet with me in person in Marin or online from anywhere in California, I provide a warm, nonjudgmental environment where we’ll get to the bottom of the stories that shape your interactions—the old hurts and habits that can turn even small issues into big fights. With a mix of proven methods like *PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy), **EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), and ***Gottman, we’ll identify the unconscious stories that hold each of you back—the ones that tell you it’s safer to shut down, blame, or avoid. By recognizing these patterns, you’ll start to reconnect with your values and strengths as individuals, and gain access to what is possible as a couple.
